Different versions of Lync support different video codecs, and this affects the quality of the video they can receive. Lync 2013 and Skype for Business support H.264 SVC which gives the best quality while Lync 2010 and Lync for Mac 2011 support RTV but not H.264 SVC.
The Call Bridge sends both RTV and H.264 SVC streams to the AVMCU. This then allows the AVMCU to send RTV to clients that don’t support H.264 SVC while sending higher quality H.264 SVC to clients that support it.
Note: support for Microsoft RTVideo, and consequently Lync 2010 on Windows and Lync 2011 on Mac OS, will be removed in a future version of the Meeting Server software.
